Drac has a special place in all our hearts. He was rescued from a hoarding case. His fur was yellow when we found him 😢
Drac is about 8 years old. He is so lovable and would be the purrrrfect lap kitty. 😸 He was adopted and returned for being nervous in the home with other animals.
Drac has done great at Petsmart with other kitties and good with kiddo volunteers. He would need a more calm home but kitties and older kids would be fine, as long as they know boundries. 🙃💙

This year, their wish lists are filled with the simple things — warm beds, full bellies, enrichment toys, and lots of love.
Every donation helps make their Christmas a little brighter while they wait for their forever homes. If you’re able, please consider giving a Christmas gift to one of our shelter animals.

Thanks to your incredible support, our sweet girl is out of surgery and recovering today. We are so thankful to our amazing community for stepping up and donating to help save her life.
A special thank you to Washington County Animal Shelter Spay & Neuter Clinic for being such an important part of her care. This is a perfect example of how shelters working together can save countless lives. It truly takes a village, and we are so grateful to everyone who made this life-saving work possible. 🐾💙

Miss Nikki was graciously brought to us by Bristol Animal Control as a stray. She is beloved by everyone she meets, I mean just look at the way she looks at you! Her ideal moments include short exploration, pretty sits for treats, and laying her head in your lap while she gazes into your eyes mending your soul. Unfortunately due to our global spay/neuter conundrum, age caught up to her before the spay hook could and with that being said as it commonly happens in these elderly cases (don’t tell her I said that she’s feeling great for six 👀) a pyometra tried taking her from us too soon. This means her uterus began to fill with infection, which is very common in unaltered female dogs. She fell into the perfect hands here at the Sullivan county animal shelter, the moment the clinic staff met her they were on a mission to save her life. A swift text and lots of diagnostics later Dr Fitzgerald at the Washington County Spay neuter clinic agreed to step in and offer to help our beautiful girl. As all great things do, this costs money.. but don’t you agree she is more than worth it!
We could use all the help we can get to help this girlie get back to her spunky self, she has much to explore!
Not all who wander are lost here at the Sullivan County Animal shelter!
Any extra funds will go to our advance medical care fund for the next life saving cause!

‘Tis the Night Before Christmas at the Animal Shelter
'Tis the night before Christmas and all through the town,
Every shelter is full of the lost but not found.
Our numbers are hung on our kennels so bare,
As we hope every minute that someone will care.
We hope they'll come to adopt us and give us the call,
"Come here, Max and Sparkie ~ come fetch your new ball!"
But now we just sit here and think of the days.....
We were treated so fondly when we had “puppy ways.”
Then we were little, but we aged and we grew –
Now we're no longer young, and we're no longer new.
So out the back door we were thrown like the trash,
They reacted so quickly–why were they so rash?
We "jump on the children," "don't come when they call,”
We "bark when they leave us," and we "climb over the wall."
We should have been neutered, we should have been spayed,
And now we suffer the consequence of the errors they made.
If only they'd trained us, if only we knew...
We'd have done what they asked us and worshiped them, too.
We were left alone in the backyard, or worse, left to roam...
Now we're tired and we’re lonely and out of a home.
They dropped us off here and they kissed us goodbye,
Saying "Don’t worry, I’m sure someone else will give you a try."
So now here we are, all confused and alone,
In a shelter with many others who long for a home.
The kind workers come through with a meal and a pat,
But with so many to care for, they can't stop to chat.
They move on to the next kennel, giving each of us cheer,
We know that they wonder how long we'll be here.
We lay down to sleep and sweet dreams fill our heads....
Of a home filled with love and our own cozy beds.
Then we wake to see sad eyes, brimming with tears–
Our friends filled with emptiness, worry and fear.
If you can't adopt us and there's no room at your inn,
Could you help with the bills and fill our food bin?
We count on your kindness each day of the year–
Can you give a little hope to everyone here?

We just wrapped up an amazing three days with Dogs Playing for Life, and the positive changes are already happening! Our instructors, Maxx and Caley, gave our team the confidence and skills to safely run dog playgroups — and our pups absolutely loved it. Seeing the dogs calm, relaxed, and happy afterward was truly heartwarming. 🥰
Now we’re excited to bring this program into our daily routine, and we want YOU to be part of it!
