Increase awareness in Sullivan County about the humane treatment of animals through responsible sheltering, education, spay/neuter assistance and access to wellness.

At The Animal Shelter of Sullivan County, Tennessee, we’re proud to offer a variety of services to support pets and the people who love them. From low-cost vaccine clinics and spay/neuter services to our pet food assistance program and community adoption events, we’re here to help keep pets healthy, in loving homes, and out of the shelter whenever possible.
Owner surrenders are accepted by appointment only so we can give each pet the time and care they deserve. Please call us at 423-279-2741 to schedule your appointment. We are unable to accommodate walk-in surrenders at this time.
For animal control calls, our team responds based on urgency to ensure the most critical situations are handled first. If you have found a stray animal, please contact animal control, as all strays must be brought in through their services.

We may be a week late, but we’re celebrating big this week! 🎉
Last week was all about our incredible volunteers, so this week we’re dedicating the spotlight to another group that keeps everything running smoothly—our amazing reception team!
From keeping us organized and up-to-date on animal records to making sure every appointment is scheduled and every call is answered with care—they keep everything moving, including helping every adoption run smoothly from start to finish. 🐾
Because of them, animals find their homes, records stay current, and every visitor has a positive experience when they walk through our doors.
Their hard work often happens behind the scenes, but we couldn’t do what we do without them. Thank you for your dedication, patience, and all the little things you do that make a BIG difference every single day!

Animal Care & Control Officer – Sullivan County🐾
Do you care deeply about animal welfare and want to serve your local community? The Animal Shelter of Sullivan County is looking for a dependable, compassionate Animal Care & Control Officer to join our team!
What You’ll Do:
• Respond to calls involving stray, injured, or dangerous animals
• Assist local law enforcement with animal control laws and ordinances
• Investigate reports of animal cruelty or neglect
• Safely capture and transport animals
• Educate the public on responsible pet ownership and resources
• Case building and report writing
What We’re Looking For:
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
• Ability to stay calm in high-pressure situations
• Physical ability to handle animals of all sizes
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Experience working with animals, public service, or law enforcement is a plus
• **Must live within a 30-minute commute of the shelter to be considered**
This job is not for the faint of heart. It is very rewarding, yet mentally and physically taxing.

Another successful vaccine clinic in the books! 🐾💉 We’re so grateful for everyone who came out and trusted us with their furry family members. Be sure to check out some of these sweet faces from the day! ❤️
A special thank you to everyone who helps make these clinics possible—our dedicated staff, amazing volunteers, and our wonderful vet, Dr. Stone! We couldn’t do it without you! 🙌🐾
Our next vaccine clinic will be May 28th—appointments fill up fast, so be sure to schedule yours today!
We also offer:
🐾 Rabies clinics on Mondays from 10 AM – 12 PM (other vaccines available during this time too!)
🐾 Non-rabies vaccine appointments Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 AM – 12 PM
📅 All visits are by appointment only so we can give each of your furbabies the care and attention they deserve.

We had such a wonderful time celebrating Volunteer Appreciation Week with a cookout at the shelter! 🌭🐾
This group right here represents the heart of what we do. Our volunteers show up day in and day out—walking dogs, helping behind the scenes, supporting events, and giving so much love to every animal that comes through our doors.
It was so nice to take a step back, spend time together, laugh, and just enjoy the company of such an incredible group of people. We even got to enjoy doggie play groups!
We are beyond grateful for each and every one of you. 💛

This week, we’re celebrating the heart and soul of our shelter—our incredible volunteers ❤️
From walking dogs and socializing cats to helping at events, cleaning, fostering, and sharing our mission with the community… our volunteers make everything we do possible. Every tail wag, every purr, every second chance—that’s because of them.
And it’s not just what’s seen—so much of their impact happens behind the scenes. From laundry and dishes to prepping meals, organizing supplies, and stepping in wherever they’re needed, they quietly keep everything running smoothly. Their hard work may not always be visible, but it is always deeply felt and appreciated.
